North York Moors Landscape Photography Workshop
Join William Jones-Warner for a relaxed, private landscape photography workshop in the North York Moors National Park. Designed for individuals, couples or small groups, this photography course in North Yorkshire takes place during the golden hour and sunset, when the changing light brings the moorland to life.
Rather than simply visiting a well-known viewpoint, this workshop is about learning to see the landscape. Together we'll explore the moorland around Castleton, discovering compositions that capture the character, atmosphere and scale of the North York Moors. Whether the evening brings dramatic skies, soft light or drifting mist, you'll learn how to adapt to changing conditions and create photographs that tell the story of the landscape.
Throughout the session, William shares the creative and technical approaches behind many of the photographs that have received recognition in the British Photography Awards and Travel Photographer of the Year. The emphasis is not on copying images, but on developing the skills and confidence to create your own.
Suitable for photographers of all experience levels, this private Yorkshire photography workshop combines practical camera tuition with creative guidance in the field. Whether you've recently bought your first camera, are looking for a camera course in North Yorkshire, or want to learn landscape photography in Yorkshire, each session is tailored to your experience and photographic goals. Conveniently located close to Whitby, the workshop is an ideal choice for anyone looking for landscape photography tuition in Yorkshire or a personalised photography experience in the North York Moors.
Throughout the workshop William will provide one-to-one guidance on:
Finding compositions rather than simply photographing viewpoints
Using foreground interest, paths, dry stone walls, trees and natural layers to create depth
Working with changing evening light and exposing confidently as conditions evolve
Understanding aperture, shutter speed and ISO for landscape photography
Getting the most from your tripod or shooting handheld
Using exposure bracketing to maximise dynamic range in high-contrast scenes
Creating strong images even when the sunset isn't spectacular
Photographing intimate landscapes, details and textures alongside wider scenic views
The pace is relaxed, with plenty of opportunity to ask questions, refine compositions and develop confidence behind the camera.
A wide-angle to short telephoto lens is ideal, although photographers using any focal length are very welcome. Manual lens or auto focus lens are also welcome. I shoot on a mixture of both.

Reviews
“As a photographer with 10 years of experience in Ukraine and 2 years in the UK, my background has always been strictly in wedding, studio, and commercial photography. Landscape shooting was completely new to me, and William’s workshop in the North York Moors was the perfect introduction. He has a rare talent for teaching you how to see the land, use natural layers, and work with changing evening light. His guidance completely opened up this new genre for me. For any photographer looking to step out of their comfort zone or improve their skills, this private session is an absolute must. Highly recommended!” Max
